Du Junfei studied for a BSc in the Faculty of Literature at Nanjing University between 1983 and 1987. Since 1987, Du has stayed on at Nanjing University as Lecturer in Chinese Language and Literature, followed by the promotion to Associate Professor in 2000. In 2003, he was officially appointed as Full Professor in the School of Journalism & Communication, Nanjing University. In April 2014, he was elected as the Executive Director of the School of Journalism & Communication, Nanjing University; meanwhile, he is in adjunct as a member of Academic Degrees Committee of Nanjing University. Du mainly specializes in new media politics and social studies.
Du is the president of China New Media Communication Association as a founder, and a member of the steering committee of Ministry of Education Colleges and Universities Journalism Teaching. In addition to this he also was a visiting scholar of Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies at Harvard University. He has presided over a number of major projects of the National Social Science Fund and provincial key projects. The Chinese Computer-Mediated Communication Studies, created by Du, is one of the source journals of CSSCI. He also holds a concurrent post as the person in charge of Communication Department of the Collaborative Innovation Center of South China Sea Studies.
