Biography of Ding Fan
Ding Fan, male, was born in Suzhou city, Jiangsu Province in 1952. Now he is a professor and the dean of the Research Center for Chinese New Literature as well as a doctoral tutor in the School of liberal Arts, Nanjing University. Besides, he is also the deputy director of the university Faculty Committee and a member of the university Academic Degrees Committee, entitled to government special allowance.
Apart from his work in the university, he also has some other important social work to do. For example: he is a member of the national social science project appraisal team; president of Modern Chinese Literature Research Society of China; vice president of Contemporary Literature Research Association in China; member of the Theoretical Committee of the Chinese Writers Association, vice chairman of Jiangsu Writers Association; Editor-in-Chief of " Yangtze River Review" magazine.
Since 1979, he has published about 400 articles (more than 4 million words) in some important academic periodicals and magazines like "Literary Criticism", "Literary Study" , "Fiction Reviews" , "Arts" and "Literary Theory". Some articles have been reprinted and reproduced by "Xinhua Digest", " Photocopies of Information of People's University " and some other famous newspapers.
His main research publications during the past two decades are as follows:" History of China's Local Novels " ," Return to the Starting Line of May 4 ", "The Modern Literary History of China's Western Region ", " the New History of Chinese Literature" and “Research on the Transformation of Local Novels in China's New Era" as well. Apart from these books ,he also published some collections of prose and essays like “the Elegy in the south of Yangtze River and “Seeking the Conscience of Intellectuals”
In addition to his books and publications, he has got 5 research projects including “national major and general projects of social science”, 2 projects from Ministry of Education Base, winning 7 awards ( the first and the second prizes) at provincial and ministerial level.
From 1992 up to now, he has trained more than 70 bachelors, 70 PhDs of Chinese literature and 15 foreign students and some senior visiting scholars as well.
